Hi Aisazia, thanks for the comment!

I'm actually finding that maintaining the discipline to draw daily is challenging! But it does help a lot.

Nice to hear that you're interested in drawing again. :D I am still learning myself, I always hear that's it's practice and it's true. Books do help, I end up borrowing a bunch from libraries because I'm cheap but they still work. :D It's good that you're dedicating time daily. That will help a lot. Good luck on your illustration journey. ;)

Steve - your desire for some form of metrics re: work accomplished (I like it in the form of time worked on x task or x project) is either missing, or poorly implemented, in every task management app I've come across. One would think with the Quantify Self movement, some firms will include this feature to differentiate themselves from the masses.

However, paper/pen (in my case, self created pages, placed into an M ARC Junior notebook) will always be my first choice. Like you, I sketch, journal etc. Also, I'm a pathetic low willpower slop when it comes to computers. I NEED to shutdown all my gadgets to retain some form of sanity. If I depend on apps for to-dos, etc., I'm screwed.

Hi Ted,

Yes, I know I can add notes but they end up attached to the project, and don't show up in the timeline. I'm getting used to Omnifocus, but I'm still not sure it's going to last.

I should spend some time on their forums though, and see how others deal with some of these issues.

Thanks for the comment!

H Diana,

I actually use Evernote for some things, but I'd never thought of using it for GTD. I'll have to look into it!

Steve,
I enjoyed reading your series on the case of journaling with just one notebook or many, which I heard about from the Notebook Stories website which I am a fan of.

I appreciate your inside take on keeping several journals versus just one and why it works or doesn't. You certainly reveal life as multi-dimensional and how there is more than one way to approach journaling in all those dimensions. It truly is a custom fit; and sometimes you have to change things up and experiment to see what works.

I have chosen your post, One Notebook or Many? Part 4: What's Been Working for Me, for the #JournalChat Pick of the Day on 1/24/12 for all things journaling on Twitter.
I will post a link on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, my blog and website Refresh with Dawn Herring, and in Refresh Journal, my weekly e-journal: http://www.refreshwithdawnherring.blogspot.com/.

You're welcome to join us for #JournalChat Live on Thursdays at 5 EST/2 PST for all things journaling on Twitter; this week's topic is Your Journaling: Checking In.

Thanks again for this interesting and insightful inside view with how many journals or notebooks to use.

Be refreshed,
Dawn Herring

Yep, moved to Leuchtturm1917 last year. Still have a liking for the Mole softcover pocket size. Numbered pages and TOC are an allout win though.

Hello Steve,
I discovered this today because of a link to your four-parter on the on or many notebooks.
I've been using OmniFocus fo ipad for about 6 months and have been seriously paying attention to journals for a couple.
Many of the cons you've listed for OmniFocus can be accomplished. For example, you can add notes to projects, not just actions. Reporting is a big hole, though. Hopefully Omnigroup will figure out that in the post PC world they should fix some of the gaps
There is a forum reachable from the Omnigroup website that has lots of good information and helpful users who could help with many of your cons.

You might take a look at Evernote. Steve. The app has a lot of functions. I'm not sure that it will allow you to sort by date for projects and such but it seems adaptable to all sorts of uses so it might. I've just started using it and it seems very customizable.
